MODERN

Decatur New Construction

Set within a neighborhood of early Craftsman bungalows, this contemporary home takes a quieter approach to modern design. Conceived by the homeowner—an architect—the house organizes everyday life around simple materials, natural light, and spaces designed to work as hard as they look.

Behind its minimal black exterior, the interior opens wide to the street and garden, using open framing ceilings, polished concrete floors, and crisp white cabinetry to create warmth without ornament. The kitchen and living area function as one connected gathering space, with built-ins defining zones instead of walls. Every detail was treated with purpose, resulting in a home that stands apart from its traditional surroundings while still feeling rooted in them.
